Firefox Introduces Windows 7 Features

Firefox 3.6 beta 1 has introduced improved previews for both of the new Windows 7 taskbar and the tabs. Three new features are now available to Windows 7 users of the new beta launch of Firefox.

The taskbar previews for tabs brings Firefox into parity with Internet Explorer 8, providing users to view and choose their open tabs through the Aero Peek. The obvious restriction with this feature is how it affects the display when you've got a high number of tabs open. As you open more tabs, their preview panes will contract. Firefox 3.6 beta 1 will show individual preview windows for each tab on the Windows 7 taskbar.

While the taskbar preview will work without manually modifying settings in about:config, the others will need a little of fiddling. As such, they're not recommended for novice users, or for those who just aren't good in tweaking the about:config.

The improved Control + Tab will now display you a preview window of your tabs, as long as you have three or more tabs open. To start it, go to about:config, find for the browser.ctrlTab.previews, and double-click on it to modify it from False to True. Then restart Firefox, and the CTRL+Tab hot key will provide you Aero-style preview pane of your tabs.

A revision to the List All Tabs facility provides you a visual component mimicking CTRL+Tab. Using Control + Shift + Tab combo, you can pull up a CTRL+Tab tab preview window that has a search box. Firefox Introduces Windows 7 Features As you type in the name of the tab you want to call up, it will filter the tabs. Enter or the left mouse button will take you directly to the tab. To start this one, go to about:config, find the browser.allTab.previews, and double-click on it to modify it from False to True then restart Firefox.

You can unable the Windows 7 taskbar preview by going to about:config, find the browser.taskbar.previews.enable, and double-click on it to modify it from True to False. As this is a beta, be prepared for Firefox to break compatibility with many applications. In my test, All-in-One Sidebar wasn't compatible, even after performing the stability-reducing edition compatibility override.Buy Windows 7 Also note that the visual component to the tabs previews within Firefox don't appear to be fully fine.

In another development, the leading theory is a BIOS or system configuration issue, but we are still investigating said by Intel. The BIOS, or basic input/output system, is the starting code that executes when a PC is powered on. The BIOS analyzes and initializes system devices like the chipset, graphics card, and hard disk drive. Makers of PC circuit boards, aka motherboards, typically provides their own BIOS.  The problem is thought to be with the Intel P55 chipset and desktop motherboards from certain manufacturers, according to a report. Microsoft has not seen this particular question asked in the Microsoft Answers for window 7 community forum, not in any of call centers, said Microsoft.
